I am a convener of conversations and events dedicated to bringing out new ideas and important voices. Let me interview someone interesting or put together an incisive panel for your organization. I conceived and produced many of these events from start to finish.
A Critic's Journey: A conversation With Mimi Sheraton
Gotham On A Plate - Food and NYC Conference
conversation at The New School, April 10, 2015
From "1,000 Foods to Eat Before You Die" to annoying food trends, the trendsetting journalist and author, who just turned 90, was trenchant as ever in this lively conversation.
The Shape of Jazz to Come: Downtown Jazz in 1959 and Now
Panel at The New School, May 30, 2014
Inspired by Lower East Side History Month and my research into the landmark jazz club the Five Spot, this was a rare exploration of the scene from Coleman's 1959 NYC debut through today -- capped by a spirited performance by the New School's Ornette Coleman Ensemble, directed by Grammy-winning saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom.
Storefronts And Stories: A Talk with the Authors of "Storefront II," James & Karla Murray
Book talk at rizzoli Bookstore, November 23, 2015
This talented couple, my neighbors, discuss their latest wonderful book of photos and interviews. Their work is a New York City treasure, and so are they.
Historic Preservation, Meet Restaurant Preservation
Panel Held at Judson Memorial Church, August 5, 2014
Based on my research and writing about the possibility of preserving NYC's landmark bars, restaurants, and food shops, panelists including Columbia University planning professor Stacey Sutton, landlord/developer Robert Perl, and Eater critic Robert Sietsema (wearing a devil mask so that restaurateurs don't recognize him), debated the fate of these beloved places.
